It was lunch time and I was craving some delicious Taiwanese food. We decided to arrive here at Mabu Station to try out some of the dishes.

I ordered the Lunch Special: Taiwanese Style Deep Fried Pork Chop with Black Pepper Sauce on Rice. It came with a side of kimchi, fries, and a tall glass of bubble tea. I loved this dish. The sauce was definitely flavourful and peppery. I loved the crunch of the pork chop and remained that way despite being covered in sauce. The pork chop was kind of small though. I found myself with a little too much leftover rice in the end.

I also got the Curry Chicken Cutlet Black Pepper Rice with Cheese. This is one of their hot sizzling plates so be careful not to touch the plate. The dish was quite flavourful, but lacked in salt.

We also tried the Glutinous Oil Rice Stuffed Chicken Wings but I don't recommend that. It didn't taste the best and it's just loaded with sticky rice.

Finally, the most underwhelming dish at our table: Taiwanese Style Oyster Omelet. I've never tasted anything quite like this. It was covered it a sweet sauce, which was odd for this dish. The pieces without sauce were absolutely bland. I would have welcomed the oyster flavour in the dish however the oysters were flavourless and tiny. I highly recommend that you avoid this dish at all costs.

A lot of the dishes here were quite bland. I liked the value of the lunch specials, however I do hope that they can shrink their gigantic menu so that they can focus on improving and specializing on a smaller number of dishes.

It's too late for me so just save yourself!

Even if all the stores were closed on Yonge, I would never tell you to eat here. It's not what it used to be.

The Japanese soy milk tiramisu - More like soggy cake

The Japanese curry katsu dish was a disaster. The breading on the curly was soggy and falling off the pork. The curry that came with was chunky because I assume it was frozen & then microwaved.

Even my friend who wasn't picky at all wouldn't eat it.

The only good thing that came out of that meal was the fries...

Before checking Yelp and it's horrible reviews for Mabu Station, we noticed Mabu Station while walking along Yonge. Mabu Station was open late so it worked out for our late dinner. Intrigued, we decided to eat here.

It was below freezing and snowing outside, so hot pot was the way to go. They serve many options of hot pot, so I decided to order the Taiwanese Ma La Hot Pot (HP01) for $15.99. It's hard to gauge how spicy a shop's Ma La is until it's too late, and the Ma La is definitely on the spicier side here. It's also a little salty, but goes well with a bowl of white rice. Well, good thing it at least comes ramen noodles because it most definitely does not come with rice. Toward the bottom of the soup it definitely gets saltier and spicier, too. However, it does taste pretty good overall.

We skipped on dessert, although everything looked amazing in pictures. But maybe it was a good thing, because according to the reviews, the desserts look better than they taste. We had too many restaurants to try on Yonge Street so we decided to skip out this time.

I recommend you bring your own bowl of rice next time if you are thinking of ordering hot pot!

July 28, 2018 - I really wanted to eat the Red Bean Condensed Milk & Brown Sugar Ice crush.. so I went to dinner with my cousin.

We ordered curry chicken sizzling plate, deep fried tofu, and pork belly.

I really thought the portions would be small, but no it's pretty big! The tofu was yummy! And I really enjoyed the pork belly, it had so much flavour and was very thick slices of meat.

The Red Bean Condensed Milk & Brown Sugar Ice Crush was very good, but I had to order more red beans. (It's never enough)    :)
